MowMeow - A chatroom game where you mow catnip

Mow lawns while chatting with people!

This was created as a monthly challenge to myself for January 2025. The objective was to build out a multiplayer game in Unity and release it regardless of how crappy it turned out. Well, it's buggy, incomplete, but I'm having fun with it, so I hope you do too!

Controls

WASD - move
SPACE - mow
SHIFT - change cat fur
BACKSPACE - toggle player names

How do you unlock more fur?

Keep mowing catnip to unlock more fur.  There are 26 different ones.

Would be nice in the future

• Hats & accessories that pop out of the grass where you have to collect it
• Different lawn mower sound unlocks
• Inventory instead of cycling through fur
• Ability to cancel a cut while active
• Ape Escape like title screen
• Cats throughout the island that live there
• Certain fur changes speed or allows to cut certain grass
• Smoother cutting camera movements
• Chat alerts for people joining the room

Some limitations / bugs [there are a ton!]

• There is no indication when unlocking new fur
• There is no lawnmower model so the cat is using its mouth or something
• When you type, controls aren't locked for your cat
• Have to restart game if host leaves and you try to rejoin
• No esc menu
• If the grass grows under your player, you have to leave and come back to cut again
